Rule Of Thumb

When looking into franchising it is a good idea to talk to other franchisees of the same company and ask them for assistance. A key thing is DO NOT EVER forget to go to a meeting or forget to call them when you are asked to do so. I forgot to make a phone call which was a very important one because my mentor had set me up to talk to a man from corporate. She got very upset saying she might not want to mentor me anymore and her supervisor was also saying she probably shouldn't. She told me she'd talk to him again and I wasn't surprised when she called and said it wasn't going to happen. This is very understandable because she is a busy person and being a franchisee isn't a career where one can waste time. So I will look for another mentor and hopefully I can find another. I know I messed up a huge opportunity. If you want help from other franchisees, don't forget to call. NEVER waste their time, you will regret it.

Blog 4: Interview Preparation

Content:

1) I plan to interview Annette Durham because she is a franchisee of a local 7-11. I know she has been doing this for a good amount of years so knowing her experiences will give me a good idea of the duties of a franchisee. I have also seen an award of excellence that was given to her, this is just reassuring me that I will get some good information from interviewing her.

2)Additional Questions:

-What was your most difficult challenge up to now, and how did you overcome it?
-What are your hours like? Is it enough for your family?
-What is your favorite/least favorite thing about this career?
-What is the most important aspect of the store you must cover to ensure a successful week/month?

Blog 3: Topic Choice and Semester 1 ESLR Goals

1) Topic Choice: Franchising

2)

  1.  Ipoly Citizen: In order to be an iPoly citizen I will have no unexcused absences nor will I be tardy more than twice. I will also participate in 2 comitees by the end of the first semester.
  2. Effective Learner:  To be an effective learner I will always be prepared for class and I will stay organized so that I do no forget to do tasks or lose them. I will also stay active in the classroom by raising my hand to attempt to answer problems/questions that are asked.
  3. Effective User of Technology: Keeping my blog up to date and checking the class blog daily will be a top priority to make sure I'm not missing anything. I will also find a good amount of research on the Internet and if not I will use it to check local libraries for any books I may need. Finally I will use my phones calendar to remind me when I will go to see my mentor and for any events that I may be participating in.
  4. Effective Communicator: To be an effective communicator I will carefully listen to my group as to what we should do and take everything they say into consideration as we will be stronger when we work together. I will also attempt to give ideas and clarify things to someone if they are lost on what to do.

Summer Mentorship Content

Literal

1)Metorship Log

2) Alma Alanis RGM (909) 568-1516

3)

  1. How do managers decide if an applicant will make a good employee?
  2. What key things help make a team of employees work well together?
  3. How are disputes between employees settled?
Interpretive

4) The most important thing that I learned during this mentorship was that labor and food top everything. If these two areas of the workplace are covered then the store will have a successful week. By making quality food and keeping the right ratio between orders and employees.

Applied

5) This experience allowed me to see the behaviors of employees and a quick insight of how a manager goes about their duties. Although I enjoyed watching the managers position I am thinking of changing my topic to franchising.
